Scooter And Bike Parks For Kids

Hit The Pavement With The Little Ones

Helmets on and wind in the face – there’s nothing quite like a cruise around on two wheels for kids and the young at heart. Ōtautahi Christchurch is flat and absolutely stacked with public parks and amenities to indulge your wheeled activities.

We’ve pulled together a little cheat sheet for parents to find the best places in the city to take the kids for a scooter or a cycle.

Did we include your favourite?

Knights Stream Park

Described by some as the best scooter and bike park in the city, Knights Stream Park sure does have some good amenities to make the most of your wheels. A polished concrete skate park and learn-to-ride street layout for learning the road rules make the park a gold-star activity destination. Find it in Halswell.

Westburn Reserve

This compact residential park comes complete with a playground, green spaces, and a learn-to-ride street layout to teach kids about road signs and give way rules. Check it out just off Memorial Ave in Burnside.

Ilam School

The learn-to-ride street layout at Ilam School is open to the public on weekends and outside school hours. An ideal spot to test out the kids street smarts. The Ilam Gardens across the road are a beautiful oasis to explore too. All of this on Ilam Road just near the University of Canterbury.

Detour Pump Track

This central city attraction is a wavy sealed loop track of delight for anyone on wheels. Gap Filler installed the track to spice up people’s bike ride, and it’s a mecca for kids on two wheels. You’ll find it in Rauora Park beside the #chchswing on Manchester Street.

City Promenade

A smooth 2km path along the Ōtākaro Avon River, the City Promenade is a safe place for scootering and cycling and links up the central city. Glide along the riverbanks and through Victoria Square, with Hagley Park at one end and Margaret Mahy Playground at the other. Get into the central city.

Christchurch Adventure Park

Suited to 8 years and under this specially designed track at the Christchurch Adventure Park consist of rollers and banked turns, allowing riders to maintain momentum by pumping their bikes. The repetitive nature of the track is great for children to practice their biking skills, free from traffic hazards.
