TRENZ Hui 2021

Is this the biggest tourism industry event in the world right now?

The city of Ōtautahi Christchurch is thrilled to be hosting one of the largest tourism industry gatherings in the world on 5-6 May, here in our basecamp for exploration at the heart of Te Waipounamu, the beautiful South Island. TRENZ Hui 2021 will bring together hundreds of industry delegates at Christchurch Town Hall to discuss the future of the tourism industry, shared challenges, and opportunities in a post-Covid world.

Loren Heaphy, ChristchurchNZ General Manager of Destination and Attraction, said she was “excited to welcome New Zealand’s tourism industry to our revitalised city, especially as we were due to host TRENZ in 2020”.

“This event is an amazing opportunity to come together and discuss the opportunities ahead for our sector,” Heaphy said.

Ōtautahi Christchurch has gone through huge changes and overcome significant challenges in recent years, and we’re excited to show the country what we’ve been working on and share what we’ve learned.”

“Ōtautahi Christchurch has gone through huge changes and overcome significant challenges in recent years, and we’re excited to show the country what we’ve been working on and share what we’ve learned.”

The event’s programme is based on themes of revival, reconnect and revitalisation. Ōtautahi Christchurch knows what it is to do it tough, to show resilience and reimagination. These qualities will be championed at TRENZ Hui 2021. TRENZ HUI 2021 is an event managed by Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA), their Chief Executive Chris Roberts saying it would focus on “how our international tourism sector can make the fastest possible recovery”.

We carried out extensive research with the New Zealand tourism industry, international buyers and other stakeholders, to determine how best to deliver TRENZ in 2021. We have some exciting digital plans but there is still a strong demand to gather in person,”

“We carried out extensive research with the New Zealand tourism industry, international buyers and other stakeholders, to determine how best to deliver TRENZ in 2021. We have some exciting digital plans but there is still a strong demand to gather in person,” Roberts said.

TIA were working on an interactive online platform to enable Kiwi tourism operators to maintain relationships with overseas buyers, expected to be available following the May event.

The event was taking place at the Christchurch Town Hall – itself a success story of a city rising from challenges to embrace its heritage and place in New Zealand’s events sector. The central city icon is managed by Venues Ōtautahi.

This is one of our city’s most iconic venues, and one that carries so much history for our community,”
