Kyan is a Filmmaker that has worn many hats through his career. He is one of the Writer/Director's of TVNZ's recent show Sextortion starring Tom Sainsbury, and Christchurch's own Kathleen Burns and Hamish Parkinson.
Great chance to get some intel on film funding
His first funded short Repugnant was funded through Someday Stories, won the People's Choice at Show Me Shorts and got him named New Filmmaker of the Year at SPADA 2018. He has also worked as a 1st AD, reality story Producer, animation editor, and PA shoveling gravel on home renovation shows.

Workshop Opportunity
From Kyan: “Are you a Writer, Director or Producer, developing your own content and wanting to get the ball rolling on proposals and funding for projects to be made in Christchurch?
I am not a commissioner, a funder, or a representative from a guild or other industry group. I'm just one writer/director who has vaguely gotten my head around how it all works, and want to share what I know. As an expat Cantabrian, I want to do what I can to try and incubate South Island teams and get more productions happening in Ōtautahi.
I'll run you through all the funding opportunities I know about, what you need to do to pitch to them. I'm going to particularly focus on Someday Stories which I made my first film through, and which I think is really low hanging fruit for a strong Christchurch based proposal.
Our original plan was for me to run this in person, but given recent pandemic situations, we decided it would be easiest to run this as a virtual zoom. As such, this event is open to anyone of all ages and geographical locations who's interested in joining in. The conversation will just be largely directed toward South Island.”
