Environmental Defence Society Annual Conference
The Environmental Defence Society (EDS) has chosen Christchurch for two prestigious annual conferences in 2024 and 2027.
Both two-day events will attract around 350 delegates, more than half of whom will be from outside the Canterbury region. The influential audience and speakers from the climate change community will include the Minister for the Environment and key environment spokespeople.

Why Christchurch
The ChristchurchNZ Legacy Programme is supporting the conference as it aligns to the city’s key sectors of interest and city goals and ambitions, brings thought leaders to the city and leaves valuable legacy benefits.
EDS Events Director Fiona Driver says Christchurch is a good-sized city for a conference as it is easy to get around with great accommodation options in close vicinity to Te Pae and the Town Hall.
The conference location in Christchurch also gives EDS excellent opportunities to organise field trips and site visits within the region prior to the conference.
