Find Interior Design Inspo At These Ōtautahi Eateries
Ōtautahi Christchurch is flush with fancy eateries and chic cafés, but some stand out from the rest for their playful style and inspired interior design.
Wining and dining in beautiful spaces is a delightful experience for the senses, so take some time to get lost in our city’s most creative hospitality interiors.

Seven
As if the views weren’t enough already, Seven is super chic with dark wood accents, cream leather booths and brutalist concrete walls. Located on the seventh floor of Muse Art Hotel, one floor down from famed rooftop bar Pink Lady, Seven’s geometric lighting and sleek furniture echo the ever-popular mid-century styling. As for their dishes? Just as sleek.

Austin Club
From skyscraper scenes to subterranean speakeasies, Austin Club is our next cab off the rank. This High Street spot’s mystery and secret make it what it is – complete with password entry! Their low panelled ceiling and art deco lighting creates a cosy ambience for cocktails and snacks – a perfect date night locale. They’ve considered everything when it comes to the interior, so get ready to settle in for the whole night.

Saturdays
Pastel colours juxtaposed with sand dunes and wave views – this is Saturdays. Their interior is playful and uber aesthetic while their polished concrete floors add an industrial and clean look to this beachside café. Their design choices make you feel easy and breezy while here. He Puna Taimoana, the landmark hot pools are right next door.

Child Sister
Less is more at central city café Child Sister, storming onto the scene in late 2019 and now a popular brunch haunt. Designed by Jun Kim, Sydney-based architect and furniture designer, it champions the building’s natural form. Exposed beams, large windows and plant life give the space a natural feel. The curved wooden counter is equally eye-catching and functional.

Arbour Woodfire Pizza
As if Lyttelton wasn’t already the answer to urban chic, along came Arbour Woodfire Pizza. An old fishing boat is the centrepiece bar, while plants drip from every possible edge and surface. The architectural design by Catherine Ellen Goodwin invoked a sort of wooden greenhouse where pizza just happens to be made. The clear roof means plenty of natural light during the day and industrial lighting by night makes the whole place shine.

Gatherings
What appears modest from the outside disguises regular culinary events and eclectic flavours. The interior at Gatherings is dotted with memorabilia and wine bottles from the various collabs the restaurant has hosted, paired perfectly with their impeccable seafood creations.

Six Ounces
Another Merivale stunner, Six Ounces is like a botanical hothouse at the heart of Merivale’s shopping area. Indoor places wherever they fit and vintage furniture create a homely environment, as do the charcoal drawings created by the owner’s mother. When the sun has set, Six Ounces transforms into a classy place for a glass of wine.

gin gin
New Regent St is already a stunning location, but gin gin have nailed the interior of their cocktail bar. The space is elevated by a clever palette of pastel and bold colours, textures and shapes. Bench seating, pendant lighting, and arched doorways – it’s all happening at gin gin.
